Darren Burge has been named head coach of the Newbury Park High girls’ varsity basketball team.

Burge replaces Panther legend Nori Parvin, who retired this season. Parvin remains Newbury Park’s girls’ golf coach.

The new coach’s daughter, Hanna Burge, is a junior on the NPHS girls’ hoops squad.

Burge coached La Reina’s varsity team for two seasons, from 2006-08, leading the Regents to a league championship and two playoff appearances.
